4 reasons to opt for flexible packaging

The packaging industry has changed dramatically in the last decade and will undoubtedly continue to do so, but one thing’s for sure: flexible packaging is trending – and it’s here to stay. Store shelves and pantries all over the world are stocked with flexibly packaged products as we speak. Never before has packaging been so versatile in shape, size and appearance – not to mention practical in terms of opening and reclosing features. Last but not least, flexible packaging is the most economical packaging method to date. Here are four more reasons for jumping on the bandwagon!

1. It’s cheap to ship

flexible packagingCompared to their rigid counterparts, flexible packaging materials weigh up to 70% less. That makes it particularly affordable for both domestic and international distribution, especially when you’re talking small product runs.

2. It’s better for the environment

On average flexible packaging requires significantly less plastic compared to rigid containers and thus creates significantly less waste. Additionally, new technologies have increased the end-of-life options for flexible packaging tremendously. Scientists recently discovered an additive that can be included in the materials and prompt the packaging’s decomposition process, causing it to biodegrade in a mere 18 months.

3. Consumers are in love with flexible packaging

If you want your packaging design to catch the consumer’s eye, flexible packaging is the way to go. Stand-up pouches that are easy to open and close, for example, are known to stand out on the shelves and engage the consumer.

4. They extend shelf-life

Flexible packaging often includes a special barrier material that blocks sunlight and prevents oxygen, moisture, grease, bacteria and other harmful contaminants from getting to the product.   Inspired by Packaging Digest
