Have you considered your Christmas packaging strategy yet?

The holiday season is upon us. For most of us that means a time of gift-giving and celebrating. For packaging designers it’s the time of year to get creative! Christmas packaging is only effective when it brings something extra to the table. Are you up to the challenge? Here are three tips to help you on your way …

1) Your logo should evoke Christmas

A recognizable logo is the number one thing that catches the attention of potential buyers. Depending on the season, you can incorporate certain colors or other motifs to create a fitting atmosphere. During Christmas, you can’t go wrong with green, red and especially white.

2) Turn your products into gifts

During the gift-giving season, consumers are looking for … gifts, obviously. So give them plenty of choices. Your brand may have the perfect Christmas gift too. All you need to do is make sure there are gift-sized versions of your product available in a suitably jolly package. Remember, nearly all food items can benefit from a holiday specific marketing strategy.

3) Stand out from the competition

Packaging is all about distinguishing yourself from the competition. So even if your product isn’t suitable to be a Christmas gift, it might still be a good idea to come up with a special Christmas packaging theme. Even Kleenex – arguably the worst gift in the history of gifts – has its own Christmas themed packaging! Why? People love to decorate their houses for Christmas and a regular box of Kleenex just doesn’t have the festive look they are looking for.
